![]() I also selected a 2600 stall converter as I have an anemic V-6 that NEEDS to get up into the RPM band for proper acceleration. I did upgrade to 4L60E internals though and the TransGo High Rev Ring Kit and Release Spring Kit. I only used the V-8 Servo and Boost Valves along with the TransGo 700 Jr. I have mentioned Shift Kits as recommendations when I think that is what is better suited to someones needs as not everybody needs tire chirping shifts, etc.įor example, I just overhauled the tranny in my '88 Camaro last weekend. What Pro Built and I are refering to is the same thing 95% of the time. Now TransGo has been calling them a High Performance Shift Kit so as to better identify with people who don't know the difference. That came about ten years later and was called a Reprogramming Kit. When they came out with the Shift Kit it wasn't actually meant to be a racing kit. TransGo has realized that people often mistakenly call any VB kit a Shift Kit, which is their name. This kit (the commercial version) has a video to aid in the installation too. ![]() The 700 kit also includes some pieces for when the unit is O/H'ed to give it higher RPM capability (at higher RPM, residual oil can drag the 3-4 clutches on even when they should be off). It has the basic fixes that the Shift Kit has and it has features to give the tranny HD/HP capabilities such as greater manual control and higher horsepower and torque handling ability. It is called a Reprogramming Kit or also a High Performance Shift Kit. ![]() They do however have something that I think most of you are after though. This kit however isn't available to the general public because of the technical knowledge required. The TransGo Shift Kit corrects this and other problems that these have. This problem is there whether it is a grocery getter or 5.7 IROC. If you don't fix this, it doesn't matter if you put the Vette servo in or the. There are many kit's out there designed to give you firm shifts but if that isn't the cause of your problem it isn't fixing them.įor example, in a 700 you have problems with delayed pressure rise which allows the clutches or band to slip until the pressure catches up. In most cases when someone complains of soft or slipping shifts it isn't BECAUSE if these complaints that they fail but rather there is a malfunction that leads TO the burned/glazed frictions and the poor shift quality is the result. The purpose of a Shift Kit is to correct the weak points of a given transmission. Actually Shift Kit is a trademarked name coined and owned by TransGo Since 1959. Most people associate the term Shift Kit with tire chirping shifts. The springs in this kit provide the tension needed to keep the clutches from applying in 1 st or 2 nd at high RPM as well as providing for a cleaner forced throttle 3-2 downshift by helping the 3-4 clutch release faster.First off, what a Shift Kit ISN'T. This TransGo clutch spring kit includes a new 3-4 orifice capsule to mitigate the checkball leak and also provides an additional exhaust for the trapped residual oil. Secondly the tension that OE springs provided was inadequate. Depending on the clutch stack up the OE load release springs could be rendered non-functional. Many techs prefer to install additional frictions in the 3-4 clutch. The GM load release springs are a step in the right direction however they have their limitations. Starting in 1988 through the last year of production of the 4L60E series transmission, GM installed load release springs in the input drum help counteract the accidental oil intrusion into the 3-4 clutch circuit. ![]() Without a sufficient air bleed, this trapped oil behind the 3-4 piston can allow the 3-4 clutch to partially apply in 1st and 2nd gear resulting in 3-4 clutch failure at high RPM’s. Additionally, minor cross leaks can lead to fluid buildup behind the 3-4 apply piston and become trapped. High-revving engines often have complaints of burnt 3-4 clutch plates with no visible signs of why the clutches failed.Īt high RPM, the check ball in the input drum will not seat due to outward centrifugal force creating a leak in the 3-4 clutch circuit. This 7-CS clutch spring kit fits 1982 to 2015 General Motors vehicles equipped with the 700R4/4L60, 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E automatic transmission.
